The goal of this piece was to extend my paper cut artwork into a three-dimensional realm. I digitally crafted a distinctive skewed hexagonal shape, composed of 16 layers. Within each layer, I incorporated smaller hexagons to introduce texture and depth, utilizing a laser for precise cutting.
After spray-painting each individual layer, I carefully assembled them. To achieve a cohesive look, I smoothed out the combined layers through sanding and applied additional spray paint.
The base, crafted from walnut, was meticulously hand-cut using a bandsaw to impart an organic sensibility. Finally, I recessed the paper sculpture into the base, completing the artwork.
