36"x54" Cut Paper Painting
Status
Available

Hand-cut paper portrait of an elderly man with a fabulous beard.

Made from four layers: the figure is three hand-cut layers (dark gray, blue, and white) each cut from a single large piece of paper. The background is spray-painted with multiple blues and oranges to give a gradient effect. Fiberglass screens were used to add texture along with splatter paint. A hand-cut mandala was lightly dusted with white paint over screens in the top right corner.

Only the border and key areas of the figure were glued to the background. This allows some of the sections to lift slightly causing shadows that help the viewer see that this is a multilayered piece and appreciate the time and skill that went into creating it.

Custom frame made from segmented cherry wood with aluminum inlays. See the video below for the making of this art and frame.
